Diagnosis: Coats’ Disease
Alfie was diagnosed on the 09/30/15 with Coats’ Disease at the Royal London Hospital, here’s how I noticed it:
At the end of August 2015, I noticed a photo taken at my eldest son’s wedding where there was a “Glow” in my youngest son’s left eye. I made an appointment at the optician’s office for his eyes to be checked. During the eye test, a thin layer of something was over the back of Alfie’s retina. We found out Alfie had no central vision in his left eye only peripheral vision. We were referred to The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and after two visits to the Bournemouth eye unit he was transferred to The Royal London Hospital to get a diagnosis of either Retinoblastoma or Coats’ Disease. Fortunately, it turned out to be Coats’ Disease. It had been caught in the early stages at Stage 2B and required laser treatment to prevent any later stages. Through close monitoring it will hopefully be kept under control.
