Every September, the childhood cancer community goes gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This effort brings together families, advocates, and health organizations around the world to recognize the courage of children and adolescents facing cancer — and to push for better detection, treatment, and outcomes.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the tradition of "going gold" have been championed for years by organizations including Childhood Cancer International and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology.
One of the cancers included in that fight is retinoblastoma, a rare but aggressive eye cancer that primarily affects young children. Most people have never heard of it, and few know that an unusual white glow in a child's eye — known as The Glow and often first spotted in a flash photo — can be one of its earliest signs. This Gold September, KnowTheGlow is joining the childhood cancer community to help more families recognize that sign before it's too late.
