This year’s World Sight Day on Oct 9th, Dr. Charles Laizer held a successful outreach at Arkville Hospital in Kokoro Abu community, on the outskirts of Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria. The event aimed to raise awareness about eye health and provide free screenings to members of the community.
A total of 85 individuals were screened, including 13 children. The main conditions identified included presbyopia, refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, conjunctivitis, and long-standing retinal diseases with macular scars.
During his awareness talk, Dr. Charles highlighted the importance of early screening and intervention for children, noting that many parents still believe their children are too young to experience eye problems. He continues to advocate for early detection and hopes to strengthen partnerships with hospitals, schools, teachers, and community leaders to increase awareness about childhood eye health in Nigeria.
