Our volunteer, Dr. Charles Laizer Doyin, recently led a two-day community eye health outreach in Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos, reaching 165 people, including 25 children.
Alongside providing eye screenings, Dr. Charles raised awareness about childhood eye diseases, helping community members understand that eye conditions do not only affect adults. This is an important message, as many childhood eye conditions, including retinoblastoma, can be difficult for parents to recognize in their early stages.
The screenings identified a range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal diseases, refractive errors, pterygium, allergic conjunctivitis, and a case of herpes zoster ophthalmicus in a child. Individuals requiring further care were referred for comprehensive ophthalmic assessment.
At KnowTheGlow, we believe that awareness is the first step toward early diagnosis and timely treatment. We are grateful to volunteers like Dr. Charles, whose dedication helps bring eye health education and services closer to communities.
Thank you, Dr. Charles, for your commitment to improving children’s eye health and raising awareness where it matters most.
