On September 13, 2025, KnowTheGlow partnered as Lead Sponsor of TEDx University of Benin, one of the year’s most anticipated gatherings for innovators and changemakers. The event, themed “Stand Out Beyond the Obvious,” brought together speakers and students for a day of inspiring ideas and meaningful conversations.
Global Student Ambassador Pemije Gadimoh, an optometry student from University of Benin, took the TEDx stage to deliver a talk titled “Where My Change.” Drawing from a familiar phrase used by Nigerian bus conductors, he challenged the audience to embrace progress over perfection. His message sparked reflection and conversation long after the session ended.
During the promotional segment, fellow student volunteer Angel Aroaye introduced attendees to KnowTheGlow’s work. Walking the audience through the website, she highlighted the importance of early detection of childhood eye conditions and raised awareness about leukocoria. Her presentation made the organization’s mission tangible and relatable.
The event featured a remarkable lineup, including Hon. Kizito Okpebholo, award-winning filmmaker Itegboje Daniel, legal strategist Nosa Garrick, social entrepreneur Khatumi Babatude, and Dr. Osahon Enabulele, Immediate Past President of the World Medical Association. Dr. Enabulele’s presence highlighted the importance of healthcare in conversations like these. The KTG team had a brief interaction with him and looks forward to exploring possible future conversations.
KTG-branded pens, flyers, wristbands, and souvenirs were shared with attendees, sparking curiosity and conversation across campus. The wristbands in particular, caught on quickly, while banners, digital visuals, and stage mentions reinforced the organization’s presence throughout the day.
In recognition of its contribution, KTG received a plaque for outstanding support as Lead Sponsor, while Pemije was honored for his inspiring presentation. The organizers expressed their gratitude, noting that KTG’s support “expanded the reach of your mission and created meaningful connections between KTG and our community.”
TEDx University of Benin offered a vibrant platform to share ideas, strengthen awareness, and inspire future partnerships. With the dedication of KTG student ambassadors and the support of the TEDx team, KnowTheGlow continues to advance the fight against childhood blindness and ensure more families worldwide learn to “Know the Glow.”
