KnowTheGlow is delighted to feature the latest adventures of one of our amazing Ambassadors to Kenya. You may remember the story of Grace Mbugua and her son Christian and their journey to care, to reach Dr. Khaki Kimani at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Grace has been on an adventure of her own of late as she recently moved to the United States through a program with the Avant Healthcare Professionals passing her exams to become a USRN and committing to a three year contract in the states as a nurse at the Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia!
Arriving in April, Grace has been participating in their orientation program working in the Medical-Surgical Oncology division of the hospital nursing sick patients as she learns more about the electronic charting system.
She and her friend, Diana, another USRN through Avant’s healthcare Professionals program, have known each other in Kenya for many years and after seeing the success of Diana through the program, Grace was inspired to follow in her footsteps and are now roommates living together in Virginia!
Grace is adjusting to life in the US, finding international markets to shop in, navigating the roads in the US, and enjoying local events in Hopewell, Virginia, where she lives. She hopes to have her son Christian, now 13, join her once she is settled and looks forward to visiting her family in Kenya again soon!
As one of our KTG Ambassadors to Kenya, Grace is continuing to manage her WhatsApp group of more than 150 pediatric cancer parent members and will continue to work to help us connect with RB families from Kenya to share their journeys.
We look forward to more great things in the future from “Amazing Grace”!
