Gracie’s Glow Story

Diagnosis: Retinoblastoma

Gracie is 2-years-old. I saw a glow in her eye, but it wasn’t all the time, so I took her to a doctor on May 16, 2016. The doctor referred us to an optometrist, and later that same day, she was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. Two days later, we saw an ophthalmologist, and they were unsure if Gracie actually had Retinoblastoma or if it was Coats’ Disease. So, we flew to Philadelphia on May 29 to see Carol Shields at the Willis Eye hospital. May 31 was our appointment; we saw Dr. Shields, who confirmed it was Retinoblastoma, and informed us that Gracie had over 10 tumors in her eye on her optical nerve. June 1 Gracie’s eye was removed. Fourteen days after we came home, we found out that Gracie needed six months of chemotherapy. She will get her prosthetic eye August 16.
